If this piques your interest and you are looking for a short story only 143 pages to devour in one sitting then this book might be for you read on for a in depth review the writing The writing has notable strengths particularly in its beautifully crafted descriptions However the prose heavily suffers from redundancy an unnecessary repetition of information that has already been stated before instances where unnecessary words and phrases clutter the text without adding value only just restating what has already been said See I just did it I ve demonstrated redundancy by restating the same point in different words The second half of my statement could be omitted without changing the meaning making it concise while still getting my point across That being said a bit revision could significantly enhance the writing making it clear concise and impactful the plot Sought by Fate primarily centers on romance and fated mates If you re looking for intricate world building or well developed events and characters you will be severely disappointed Things happen quickly without much development or build up This straightforward approach may appeal to readers who prefer a immediate narrative without extensive detail making it perfect for people with the attention span of a goldfish yes I m talking to you whoever is reading this I call this the fast food of literature It lacks any depth and substance yet you might find yourself consuming it eagerly If you don t mind the overly simplistic approach you might find some enjoyment in this if you only treat it as a light entertaining read to pass the time Nothing the romance You see while the concept of fated mates seems romantic in theory it raises concerns when it undermines personal autonomy In the book the mating bond is portrayed as so powerful that feelings of love will happen regardless of personal choice This aspect makes the love between Storm and Feylin feel less meaningful Their attraction stems solely from this overpowering bond rather than any deeper connection or personal reason If they eventually come to love each other it would be a result of the fated bond rather than a genuine relationship I had hoped for some meaningful development between Storm and Feylin a chance for them to discover qualities in each other that would foster genuine love Perhaps an event that would force them to truly get to know one another Unfortunately there was no substantial reason for their affection beyond the fated bond Storm wanted nothing to do with the bond or Feylin but ultimately the connection proved too powerful to resist Storm and Feylin s reaction to being mates Storm A fucking servant. Feylin A mage of legend LMAAAO the characters Storm Avondale lacks any redeeming qualities He consistently insults Feylin rejects her and insists that he doesn t need her yet he becomes petulant like a child whose toy has been stolen from him whenever she tries to move on by getting close to someone else He could use a serious lesson in emotional maturity I hated how he popped up every time Feylin was having a moment with Zarius Please leave and let my girl get some Honestly I found Feylin s naivety and desperation to be quite frustrating especially as it undermined her dignity I wished she would stop hoping begging and yearning I wanted her to hold her head high walk away and show Storm Avondale what he was truly missing The ending was satisfying because even though her actions were meant to protect Storm he finally got a taste of his own medicine Zarius felt like a caricature He wakes up after being at death s door and the first thing he does is flirt with Feylin like a lovesick teenage boy Despite this his behavior adds a touch of comic relief and if you re a fan of the hurt comfort trope you ll probably eat up their interactions Sometimes something can be so silly and cringe that it just ends up being entertaining instead of bad Well still bad but entertaining nonetheless This was a prime example of that bottom line the plot leaves much to be desired but it was an easy fast paced read i would have preferred the book to be longer with substance as many aspects of the story deserved further exploration the lack of development is truly a missed opportunity despite its shortcomings the ending captured my attention and i ll be looking out for the sequel Thank you to Monica Ageno Kindom Books and Netgalley for the free ARC in exchange for my honest review English What in the fuck just happened I have so many conflicting emotions I feel like my mind and emotions have been put in a blender at high speed I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to receive this book as an eARC and I had so much fun doing it I was interested in the story from the beginning Despite some writing choices that I didn t particularly love none of the things I didn t fully vibe with were enough to stop me from getting fully invested in the story There were a lot of moments when I thought the whole book would be extremely predictable which isn t necessarily a bad thing just A thing but then I was almost immediately proved to be wrong I would say something in my notes and then a chapter later my reaction would be I WAS FUCKING KIDDING It spiced the story up for me in a way I m not used to and it was really refreshing to see tropes that have been done to death have a little twist on them. I have some problems with our main characters I hate Storm I hate him so much it s not even funny Maybe he gets redeemed later in the series but as of right now I want his story to end with him regretting every life decision he s ever made living out the rest of his days alone and depressed while our main girl whose name escapes me right now lives out her best life He is a misogynistic hypocritical whiny dick who refuses to acknowledge what he wants then blames everyone else and lashes out when faced with the consequences of his actions I lowkey have hopes that he will turn to the dark side and become the antagonist of the story Feylin I remembered her name is naive and stupidly optimistic and her inability to just get over her feelings for the guy she met two seconds ago gave me hives To an extent I understand with the whole fated mates rejection things leaving permanent scarring on your entire being as a person and blah blah blah But I have read too many werewolf Wattpad stories with this exact plot to have any sort of patience for this kind of self destructive behaviour The way the book ended was the absolute best outcome for her character in my opinion and I honestly can t wait to see what happens with her and that guy next On a side note wtf does she look like I don t know if it was explained at all and I just missed it but I can remember the character descriptions for everyone but her and it s bothering me Usually I don t really care that much but the art of the cover suggests she has a darker skin tone which I fucking hope so considering she s depicted with locs and now all I can think about is that sound on Tiktok What colour are you some type of black or Spanish For now I m choosing to believe she s lightskin or mixed. Overall I really enjoyed the book as it is such a quick read literally took me a couple of hours after work and it is easy to get into This is a great palate cleanser with a side of emotional turmoil and I find that tends to be the best combination I am excited to see how all the characters progress and to see if Storm somehow gets redeemed English Well that was a quick short read about 130 pages But packed full of magic mates war court intrigue etc I liked how the mating bond was portrayed but Storm was soooo hot and cold it made me want to smack him I m hoping to see Feylin get the love she desires in the books to come I definitely think there are some games afoot going on behind the scenes too In any case I really enjoyed this and am definitely intrigued to see how it plays out after that cliff hanger Thank you NetGalley BookBuzz for this ARC Look for it when it releases on August 1st 2024 English first off why is enemies to lovers in the title this really wasn t that imo starting off with this book I immediately noticed the writing it was overall very repetitive I think the same phrase was repeated like five times in one singular paragraph another thing I noticed was the abrupt pov switches that would occur mid scene which just confused me not off to a great start. after that is when the main characters meet they are in the same room find out they are mates and the fmc immediately starts thinking about their future together and just sounds quite desperate mind you they are complete strangers they ve never even spoken before maybe a mere shared glance at most while the mmc doesn t want her which is understandable as he has a lover when his lover kisses him the fmc has a breakdown and runs off. she asks the mmc why he is with his lover yeah this just made no sense to me and I found it quite embarrassing for her I m pretty sure she knew he had a lover anyways the mmc rejects her this is all happening in one chapter not looking great so far. after rejecting her he makes out with her yeah you read that right she gets her hopes up and then he rejects her again omg I completely forgot to mention something so I m adding it here really quick the fmc wants to change herself so that the mmc will like her which made me so mad because he is not worth it you can probably guess how the rest of the book went but here are some things that irked me the mmc has made it very clear he does not want her right yet he wants to control what she s wearing and who she s seeing yeah here s a quote Your assistance is best appreciated in the kitchen Leave the room woman since a rejected bond could lead to death the fmc is getting weaker and she needs to find someone else to live so she does the mmc calls her a whore here are quotes What you are doing is disgusting disgraceful in poor taste and demeaning even for you What the hell is that supposed to mean I won t have any crass behavior with my men Do you understand Or else what Or else I ll toss you into the gutter from whence you crawled with only those rags on your back then proceeds to tell her not to cry yeah what the fuck. oh guess what he wants her now here s what he had to say It is me you get and you d best prepare yourself to accept that for the rest of your miserable fucking life I am leaving my kingdom my home my position and everything I have ever fucking known to be with you you ungrateful wench the villain of this story ended up being nicer to the fmc than any other male characters to be honest like overall the characters fell flat the story fell flat and I did not enjoy this at all this book wasn t for me and these are all my opinions I have seen other readers enjoy this book based on reviews so maybe this book is for you sadly I can t say the same. thank you to NetGalley BookBuzz and the author for an arc copy in exchange for an honest review English Wow I really enjoyed this one This book was a fairly quick read but I thought the pacing was fantastic the plot never felt like it was dragging and every page felt like it progressed the story forward I m a sucker for all of the classic romantasy tropes elements including fated mates unique magic systems MMC jealousy posessiveness feuding factions hard to believe with a face like this and my winning personality Rating 4 Genre Adult Fantasy Romance NovellaFormat ARC EbookPages 143Spice 1 POV Third POVS S Chronicles of the Fates 1Check trigger warnings for any bookSuch an impact for such a short book Addictive character relationships intriguing lore and world history magic system that impacts society and a difficult romance Oh and that ending twist Feylin the woman you are Storm you better learn And a love triangle All in one YUP.
